Raise The Roof Charity LEJOG Ride July 2016
Raise The Roof Charity ride - Club Coach Tony Falconer White - watch out for a club family support ride at Carsington Water Sunday 15th May 2016
My name is Tony and I wanted to contact you in regards to asking for your support in promoting a charity ride . My friend and I are both fathers of children who attend Bonsall School and we are both riding John O Groat's to Lands End in July 2016 (17-25th - 9 days unsupported).
This ride is in aid of supporting Bonsall School to gain an extra learning space for the children. The school and Lesley Murhall (the Head teacher) has done so much for the village, supporting all the children and local events such as the local carnival, which brings everyone together. Lesley also makes time to visit her pupils when they move on to secondary school, so I know she works very hard.
The ride started out as a plan to raise money but its evolving along the way, for me its more about bringing people together to benefit and learn from each other. Here's the cycling spiel coming out now - Sir Dave B has his "aggregation of marginal gains", I see this more about "unifying diversity for a common goal". I even spoke to other villagers who are thinking about doing a "Bonsall big build", where by people donate time and trade experience to support the raising of this learning space, which i think shows great community spirit.
I know riding JOGLE isn't unique and lots of people have done it. however we intend to link the ride with educational and activity based themes to ensure the children get involved at the school, we'll be phoning the school each day providing regular updates of our mileage and asking questions about history and geographical locations along the route. We'll also be setting up a bike in the school so that during break times the children can try to clock up some miles as well.
We also want this event to be family friendly so even though we are training a lot we would like people to join us on rides in our preparation to help us and them enjoy the outdoors. It is our intention to set a date in spring where we'll ride a continual loop around Carsingson for a day and families will be welcome to come and join us at any time, whilst we ride it 10 times (about 80 miles- so we'd be there from 9:00 - 5pm) date Sunday 15th May
Please see the donate page and blog page that is currently set up below and i look forward to speaking with you soon- i've attached a couple of photo's that can be used to help with the event promotion- signifying Scotland and the south coast of England.
