Eroica Britannia 2017 new venue!
After 3 years at Bakewell showground, L'Eroica Britannia announced its new venue yesterday, 17th October.
For quite a while, ever since they mentioned a new location for 2017, we've been guessing where it would be!
We all guessed wrongly....the new location is Friden Grange on the High Peak Trail behind the brick works!
Looking at the conversations on Facebook and RetroBike forum the general consensus of opinion......which match my own....is that this is a retrograde step. One of the attractions of it being located in Bakewell was exactly that! Visitors to the show could explore the town and its abundance of pubs, cafes and restaurants or just walk by the river, enjoy the shops etc. The town also joined in by decorating their shops and celebrated L'Eroica Britannia being held at the showground. The investment in tourism was immense.
Now Friden Grange? It seems like the organisers have lost track of what it was all about.....riding pre-1987 bikes....and concentrated on the "festival" side of things. Ok so there will be more space for camping, parking and expanding the festival experience, and of course remove the congestion from Bakewell....but Friden Grange?
It will be interesting to see what happens but I think the organisers might have shot themselves in the foot on this new location....we'll wait and see!
Will I be going?....not sure!
