Lots of information about this years Cycle Live Nottingham event 20 - 21st June 2015
Cycle Live Nottingham was created in 2012 by Beeston based events company Perfect Motion, owners of the Great Notts Bike Ride. The idea was to take the hugely popular mass particpation ride and form a weekend of cycling based activity around the Victoria Embankment that would have something that appealed to everyone.
With this in mind, The Nottingham City Ride and The Nottingham Grand Prix were added to the schedule. The City Ride is an entry level event for young families or those new to cycling with routes of 2.5, 7.5 or 10.5 miles available to choose from, all of which take place on predominantly off road cycle ways and tracks. The Grand Prix took place on a closed 1 mile circuit around the Embankment with a variety of races available to racers, including the very popular Cycle Live Omnium.
Improvements were also made to the Great Notts Bike Ride, with the routes more accessible with the move to a new start/finish venue. The traditional 25 and 50 mile distances were retained with new routes formed. A 100 mile sportive was also added which has proved immensely popular and has sold out each year.
On top of the participation element of the weekend, an event village that would offer the general public the opportunity to come along and have a great day was also added. Valued event partners The Big Wheel and Sustrans identified a vast array of activities that focused on cycling, sustainable transport and craft to deliver an offering for all to enjoy. In addition, a catering village, live music, inflatables and a whole host of other activities are available for people to try.
The success of Cycle Live Nottingham saw it nominated as the Best Sports Event in the UK in 2014 at the UK:Event Awards – a remarkable achievement for a local event considering it was up against elite international events in the same category.
The Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride was started by local cycling group Pedals in 1982 and went from strength to strength. As it grew in size, it needed more people to help deliver it which is when it got taken over by Nottinghamshire County Council IN 1985. Perfect Motion were engaged in 2008 to deliver the event on behalf of the Council, which they did for three years. A change in policy at the County Council saw the ownership of the event passed over to Perfect Motion in 2011. They delivered a solitary Great Nottinghamshire Bike Ride that year before the formation of Cycle Live Nottingham and the move to Nottingham City Council boundaries.
