The Milk Race will return to Nottingham in 2014
By Nottingham Post | Posted: February 21, 2014
THE Milk Race will return to Nottingham this year, after a triumphant comeback in the city last year.
The event, which was brought back after a 20-year break, will take place for the second year running in Nottingham on Sunday, May 25, as a major city centre race.
It will once again be a key event in the British sporting calendar and will constitute both an elite women's race and an elite men's race on the same day, alongside a full day's festival of cycling for all the family.
Last year, 60,000 spectators saw Olympic gold medalist Dani King and Rapha Condor JLT's Felix English win the women's and men's elite events.
Already confirmed for this year's race is multi gold medal Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey along with her team The Madison Boot Out Breast Cancer Cycling Team.
"I am very excited to see The Milk Race return to Nottingham," she said.
"It was a superb event in 2013 recapturing the excitement of the event from its previous format.
"This year I am excited to be riding with my new road team and I look forward to seeing the amazing crowds that watched the event in 2013."
Also confirmed for 2014 is men's champion English.
"The atmosphere last year in Nottingham was fantastic so I can't wait to race the circuit once again," he said.
Nottingham was chosen as the location of the race for the second year running as it played a huge part in the success of last year's event.
The city also has a long standing heritage in cycling – housing the headquarters of leading brand Raleigh – and maintains an outstanding commitment to community cycling.
Councillor David Trimble of Nottingham City Council, said: "We're proud of our reputation as a bike friendly city, as well as our continued commitment and investment in community cycling.
"The return of The Milk Race is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Nottingham, both to watch and be entertained by this great event, and also to get involved in cycling in a friendly, fun atmosphere."
Launched today, further information about the 2014 Milk Race can be found at www.themilkrace.com.
Registration for family and advanced rides will open mid March.

Anyone else going to watch this on Sunday? Not sure if you have spotted but there are family rides on the day - 20 minutes riding the closed city centre circuit before the main events. You have to register and there is more information here: http://www.themilkrace.com/
I was thinking of taking Tom along so we could have a spin round the circuit which would be a great experience for him. No doubt Tom will want to wear full Matlock gear which will help promote the club too!

Following its hugely popular introduction last year, members of the public will once again be able to cycle the same route as the world and Olympic champions who are competing in the elite races.
With a choice of three different ride categories, all to happen between 9am and 12pm on the same day as The Milk Race itself (Sunday 25 May), there is something to suit all ages and abilities. Prices are £4 for adults (aged 17 and over), £2 for juniors aged 11 to 16 and free for children aged 10 and under.
