Volunteers are being given the chance to play a role in Britain’s premier international sporting event of 2016 as British Cycling opens volunteer applications for the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

Launched during Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), British Cycling is seeking to recruit over 200 volunteers to a variety of roles across the event, from programme sellers and accreditation distributors to media and sports assistants.

Applications are now open via the event website at and will close on Friday 28 August 2015.

Commenting on the important role volunteers will play at the event, Jonny Clay, British Cycling’s cycle sport and membership director, said: “Britain has established an international reputation for its sport volunteers and it will be no different for the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

"Whether helping spectators, looking after the media or supporting the athletes, volunteers will be a vital part of delivering this world-class event.”

“This is a hugely significant event in the sporting calendar as the best track cyclists on the planet descend on London to contest world titles. We’re offering people a fantastic opportunity to get behind the scenes and make a special contribution to an event that will live long in the memory.”

Applications are now open via the event website at and will close on Friday 28 August 2015.

The 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships take place at the Lee Valley VeloPark from Wednesday 2 to Sunday 6 March 2016.

The event will see Great Britain’s track stars return to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park venue to compete for the much-coveted gold medals and the chance to head to the Rio Olympic Games as the best in the world.

Volunteers will be needed during the event set-up, competition days and breakdown in various roles from Tuesday 23 February until Monday 7 March 2016. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or above.

Further information on the recruitment process is available at www.trackcyclingworlds2016.london/volunteers.

Tickets for the event are currently on sale via Ticketmaster.
