Nutcracker Altura XC MTB series round 2 Gandale
A bit late here.
A great day in North Yorkshire, very windy but dry, well... no rain, but plenty of water splashes and river runs. A great course and highly visible from the finish line.
First up was the youth racing, an uphill fire road start into a strong headwind. Ffyona put the pressure on from the start, the course was not overly technical but had enough steep bits and tricky rock sections to keep you on your toes. After a long stretch with a tailwind three lads managed to get in front of her but she managed to keep on the wheel of the last one. Halfway through she was still holding her position with two good woodland sections to go. Nearing the finishing climb she managed to hold onto the lads wheel and finish 4th overall and 1st Juvenile female.
Next up was the seniors which included Sarah Lomas and Gregg Booker. Sarah made it her race and was 1st female junior getting right up there with elite and expert female riders, an ace ride well done. Gregg add a storming two and a half laps and then had a flat losing his fight for 1st place, into lap four and suffering from a cut sidewall in his rear tyre he had another flat, he carried on to finish but dropped to 5th, but a good result having ridden in the top 10 with elite and expert riders until the mechanicals. Better luck next time.
If you race at Gandale next year, make sure you have a good tyre setup and repair kit, there was lots of DNF due to flats because of the rocky river bed section.
I don't think there was any other MCC riders as far as I am aware.
